BROWN BELIEVES AMERICANS WERE READY FOR DTV TRANSFER
Contradictory to the illogical decision made today to postpone the February 17th digital television transition, I believe the American public was ready for the change. The following numbers from a January Nielsen report confirm just this: • 94.3% of American homes already had one or more TVs ready for change over. • Only 12.8% of TV households in America were exclusively using analog airwaves. • Coupons had been sent to 94.4% of the households only using analog. • Only 800,000 analog airwave households had not yet received a coupon and 600,000 of these homes were on the waiting list. • Meaning only 200,000 households, less than 2% of analog airwave homes or less than .02% of all American TV homes had nothing.
